H238 - Hospitalist - Springfield Massachusetts region 200 bed, non-profit, lightly academically affiliated Central Massachusetts Hospital is in the process of expanding its current staff of eleven full time Hospitalists.
The Hospitalist Service assists with admissions, discharges, and inpatient care for the patients assigned to the Service. At the present time, the Service has been opened to all primary care physicians on the medical staff. The position available offers full time employment with benefits. The Service has a block schedule of 5 days on/5 days off. Currently there are two physicians who take the night shifts. If one of those physicians should come off the night shift schedule, the schedules of the other hospitalists will include a night shift rotation among the other hospitalists. Where physicians prefer to work nights, those requests will be honored, thus reducing the number of night shift rotations for the other physicians.
The salary for a full time Hospitalist is $190,000 per year + for experienced; a complete benefit package with health, dental, life, disability and malpractice insurance is a part of the benefit package. There is also a qualified pension plan. Leave time benefits include 4 weeks of vacation and 80 hours of holiday time each year. CME time off with pay is one week per year, plus a $1,000 allowance for CME expenses; an annual discretionary allowance of $500 is also available to physicians. Located in the foothills of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. Outstanding private schools are available at all levels (elementary, secondary, college); additionally, excellent public colleges are available in close proximity to the Medical Center. The cost of living in Western Massachusetts is significantly less than eastern Massachusetts. This Western Massachusetts Hospitalist Program was founded in December 2006 and achieved 24/7 status in December 2008. Current includes 3 FTE and 2 Mid-Levels. Currently seeking another full time Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine Hospitalist( with a strong interest in ICU medicine as well). No procedures are required, but would certainly be welcome( i.e., Central Lines, Joint Injections/Aspirations), ACLS certification is required.
The new Hospitalist would primarily work the day shift, 10 hours per day( 4 days per week) with 3 days off per week. However, during Nocturnist vacation/CME, night shift work may be occasionally be required(5 nights on 7:00 p.m.-7:00a.m., and four days off in a row). The day shift includes Admits, Follow-up Rounds, Consults, and Discharges. The night shift typically focuses on Admissions, Consults, and cross coverage. The day shift patient load range is 10-14 per day, and the night shift range is 1 to 8 per night with three hours typically available for sleep/reading literature). One person works 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., two to three are on day shift.
Base salary will be based on experience/training/interest in ICU level medicine/interest in Nocturnist work with a range of $160,000 to $190,000 starting salary. One month paid vacation and one week paid CME is provided in the benefits package. For further details on benefits, please refer to the contract addendum. They have 24/7 Intensivist and Cardiology backup as well as 24/7 General Surgery. This program has the highest patient satisfaction in the Western Mass Area and communication skills and compassion are crucial. |

No call, 1 overnight shift per month (nights are covered by full time Nocturnists.) 17 patients per day. No ICU coverage. 24 hour Critical Care and Anesthesia services provided by the hospital. Call average of 3.5 nights per on-week only. Average pay is about $120 per hour, plus a very generous productivity bonus. 13.5 patients per day. More in the winter, less in the summer.
